Location
The location of the building is very important to get different information layers which are crucial to start the project.
The first approach to the site reveals a wonderful place where its limits are the natural landscape.
The building is on a dyke, and it has views in both orientations, to the sea on the South, and to the city on the North. It is the first construction we can see arriving from the sea.
The second approach, more specific, is about the information from the navy, the building owner and the unique user of the dock. The place has a complex program diagram with several uses and functions, services, security…
The building has this double situation. A regular piece, vertical and compact volume is projected, autonomous but with specific connections for its supply. The building has a neutral image with six facades, in response to these conditions.
Organization
Inside, the complex program organization is solved with vertical levels. The double height close and open spaces pass trough and join the different floors.
Navy life and authorities: first floor
Offices: second floor.
Major’s house: third floor
Outside, it is an abstract objet, without scale:
The building gets open to the main view orientations: north and south, and gets closed to the worst climate orientation for sun and wind, east and west.
