This support Centre for Research and Development has several uses: workshops, laboratories, warehouse, etc., dependent on university services such as Environmental and Agroforestry Innovation and Development Centre or Support Research Laboratory of Health Sciences.
It is located in the University of Murcia, in the Agricultural Experiences Zone, inside the ‘Espinardo’ Campus, that has some essential characteristics like the nature of its landscape and the topography.
It is a modular industrial building that has only one floor that is adapted to the plot topography, which is fully occupied. It develops with squares pieces that contain different uses and conditions depending on the future users. Also, this requirements cause a change in the height of rooms. This variation makes the volumetric effect that you can see from the East and West facades.
There is a north-south ramp that crosses the building; this is the main circulation that integrates the laboratories, workshops, offices, locker rooms with the courtyards between them. Those courtyards give light and ventilation to the different rooms that connect the natural land with the building.
The main materials of the intervention are: Concrete, glass (transparent and translucent), corten steel panels, a continuous folded concrete roof that gives a special image to the visitant that enters to the Campus (this building is the first image that he/she can see).
